Help For Asylum Seekers
Asylum is the application a person makes when they are fearful of returning to their home country and is different than refugee status which can only be applied for outside of the U.S. One of the first steps we take in evaluating a claim for asylum is determining whether the individual is eligible for claiming asylum. Typically there core requirements for establishing asylum, such as persecution based on sex, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion, national origin or membership of a social class.
Another main consideration for asylum seekers is the country of origin. Some countries target certain groups based on sexual orientation, others based on religion or national origin. Determining what country of origin can also help determine what potential consequences or penalties the person will face upon arrival in their home country. The penalties may include anything from flogging, imprisonment or even the death penalty.
Confidentiality And Trust Is Vital
We work to identify whether a client is eligible as well as identify what they are most afraid of should they return to their home country. A large number of our clients come from Latin American countries, such as Venezuela and also from Middle Eastern countries. It is paramount to maintain confidentiality throughout this process. We offer compassionate representation and empathy for each client’s situation.
We explain to clients that the process can be lengthy and that there are certain deadlines to meet. Meeting with a lawyer who can assess your claim is critical to a successful application. At, Moreno, LLP Attorneys at Law, each client receives individual attention from their attorney as we advocate on their behalf.
